Officer Ephriam Brown was shot and killed after arresting a man he observed smoking marijuana in a car parked in a convenience store parking lot.
As the man was being walked to Officer Brown's patrol car he surprised the officer. He was able to gain control of Officer Brown's service revolver and shot him several times.
The 22-year-old suspect pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the middle of his trial to avoid receiving the death penalty. He was sentenced to life in prison.
Officer Brown had served with the Opa-locka Police Department for 1 1/2 years. He was survived by his fiancee and mother.

View all 23 ReflectionsI was 5 yrs old when I met Officer Brown, in 1985, he always patrolled Oaisis Apartments, down from the Circle K, every time he came thru the parking lot of the complex, he would get out of his patrol car & play catch with me & my cousin. I was Always happy to encounter him when I was a lil boy, he was kind & polite & I really looked up to him & still do, he was an excellent role model & still is my hero today, he was always neat & clean in his uniform, I always thought he was my human G.I. Joe. he is the reason
Why I want to Join law enforcement today, I remember the incident & the yellow tape would not allow my mother & I to get closer, I just couldn't take my eyes off of his patrol car hoping I would see him in it. This is the 1st time since 1986, that I was tough enough to look at his picture. I love you & missing you Officer Brown.
