Game Warden David Brown and Game Warden Mertley Johnston were shot and killed while investigating illegal beaver near the Big Bog Dam on the North Branch of the Penobscot River.

After shooting both wardens, the Canadian suspect placed their bodies under the ice. Their bodies weren't located until May 22, 1923.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 87th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
