Detective Brown was shot and killed by a forgery suspect. When Detective Brown went to the suspect’s home to question him the suspect pulled a gun and disarmed Detective Brown. The suspect then ran to Detective Browns car to escape. Detective Brown went to a neighbor’s house and got a shotgun. When Detective Brown confronted the suspect the shotgun failed to fire and the suspect shot and killed Detective Brown.

On January 14, 1929, the 26-year-suspect was apprehended in Marshall, Texas, after being shot in the arm by police during a chase.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 83rd anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
