Sergeant Paul Brooks was killed when his motorcycle collided with a oil truck.

He was returning to the station house after visiting a motorcycle patrolman in the hospital who had been injured earlier in the night. As he traveled on Queens Boulevard, his motorcycle struck an oil truck near 32nd Place and was killed instantly.

Sergeant Brooks had served with the New York City Police Department for 14 years and was assigned to the Grand Central Parkway Precinct, the present day Highway 3.

It was my honor wearing your dads shield for 14 years. I thought that they would have retired that after he was killed. When I got promoted many new sgts had nice bright new shields. When I was given your dads it looked old lol. But I’ll never forget that number nor your father. I didn’t realize I was was wearing your dads until many years later. I grew up right near where your father was killed and passed there many times. Coincidence? Maybe not.
