Henry Murray Brooks, Jr.

Trooper Henry Brooks was struck and killed by an automobile while investigating a vehicle crash on U.S. 29, three miles south of Altavista in Pittsylvania County.

Another vehicle entered the area and struck the rear one of the parked cars before striking Trooper Brooks and three citizens. Trooper Brooks was transported to a hospital in Lynchburg where he succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the vehicle who struck him was charged with manslaughter.

Trooper Brooks was both a U.S. Marine Corps veteran WWII and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
