Motorcycle Officer Marlyn Reed succumbed to injuries sustained four days earlier when he was involved in a motorcycle accident while attempting to stop a speeding vehicle.

Another car attempted to make a U-turn in front of him on the 9200 block of Long Beach Boulevard. Officer Reed's motorcycle struck the car, causing him to suffer fatal injuries. He was transported to Suburban Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
