Deputy Brittain was shot and killed while attempting to break up a fight in a local restaurant. A 31-year-old man was arrested and charged with murder. A month later he was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to 7 years.

Deputy Brittain was survived by his wife.

My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
