Deputy Sheriff Oscar Briones was shot and killed while attempting to breakup a fight and make an arrest inside a bar in Benavides.

The owner of the bar was convicted of his murder on three occasions but received only a five years suspended jail sentence.

Deputy Briones was survived by his wife and daughter.

Sir, it has taken over 66 years but you are finally being honored. I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for the citizens of Duval County. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy. It angers me that the POS that murdered you only received a suspended 5 year sentence a cuter three trials.
