Allan Reid Brazzell

Sergeant Allan Brazzell was struck and killed by a drunk driver while removing debris from Bethel Church Road at approximately 2:00 am.

The blue lights on his patrol vehicle were activated as he removed a couch from the road. He was walking back to his patrol car when he was struck.

The driver had a blood alcohol level of .204. He was sentenced to 10 years, but had five years suspended.

Sergeant Brazzell was a United States Air Force veteran and had served with the Sumter County Sheriff's Office for four years. He was survived by his wife and son.
