James W. "Jim" Hammond

Town Marshal Jim Hammond was shot and killed by a subject he had found sleeping on the railroad tracks.

When the man woke up he produced a handgun and shot Marshal Hammond in the chest, killing him. He was arrested and charged with Marshal Hammond's murder. He was convicted of voluntary manslaughter and sentenced to 20 years.
