Conservation Officer Ezra Brewer drowned while checking for turkey hunters along the Chickasawhay River, near Leakesville.
The boat he and his partner were in began to take on water and capsized. Officer Brewer was pulled beneath the surface as a result of the undercurrent. His body was recovered a short time later by search and rescue personnel.
Officer Brewer was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was survived by his wife and two children.
