Sheriff Roy Tipton was struck and killed by an automobile as he got out of his car and started walking across Route 59 a road three miles south of Brazil.
He was going to a nearby farm house to take a man into custody who was suffering from mental issues. The 15-year-old driver of the car that struck him was charged with driving without an operator's license.
Sheriff Tipton was survived by his wife and three children. He is buried in Summit Lawn Cemetery in Brazil.
