James Combs

Constable Jim Combs suffered a fatal heart attack after two men fired several rounds at him.

The two men were arrested and charged with murder and shooting with intent to kill. The first man was acquitted and charges against the second man were subsequently dropped.

Constable Combs was survived by his wife.

Sir, it has taken over 81 years but you are finally being honored. I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for the citizens of Letcher County. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
