Police Officer John Bracken succumbed to injuries sustained 12 days earlier when his police motorcycle was struck by a vehicle, driven by a drunk driver, while he was on patrol.

Officer Bracken was a U.S. Army veteran and had served with the Jersey City Police Department for two years. He is survived by his wife and two children.

It's hard to believe it has been 46 years since I attended your wake as a young man to pay my respects to your family and my Aunt Harriet Bracken Tarrant. Your untimely death did not deter me from entering the police profession. Your sacrifice is not forgotten and has been an inspiration to me. RIP brother.
