Deputy Game Warden Julius Salmonson and Deputy Sheriff Joseph Hazeltine, of the Muskegon County Sheriff's Office, drowned when the boat they were in capsized in White Lake's Indian Bay as they attempted to retrieve an illegal fishing net from the White Lake Channel.
Deputy Game Warden Salmonson's brother, Martin Salmonson, had accompanied them on the trip and also drowned.
The bodies of all three were located approximately 600 feet from the shore after an extensive search.
Deputy Warden Julius Salmonson had served with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources for two years. He was survived by his wife and one child.
