Constable Dock Ferguson was shot and killed by a man who was attempting to disarm him near the East Fork of Paint Creek.
The man attempted to take Constable Ferguson's pistol after telling him he was going to chase a man who had whiskey. When Constable Ferguson refused to hand over his pistol, the man shot him before fleeing into the woods.
The suspect was apprehended in Lake Orion, Michigan, on March 3, 1903. On January 19, 1905, he was convicted of murder and sentenced to 21 years.
Constable Ferguson was survived by his wive and 12 children.
