Patrolman Kip Boulis drowned in the Maumee River, near the Maumee-Perrysburg Bridge, while attempting to rescue boaters who had been thrown into the water when their boat capsized.
He and a Maumee police officer both dove into the water to attempt to rescue the man and three children who were clinging to the boat. The other officer was able to return to shore but Patrolman Boulis went under the surface and drowned.
Patrolman Boulis had served with the Perrysburg Police Department for eight years.
