Deputy Willie Cammon was killed in an automobile accident when his patrol car was struck head-on by the driver of a vehicle that was illegally passing another car.
Deputy Cammon was traveling on Georgia Highway 100 near Yates Road when the collision occurred. The driver of the car that caused the crash was charged with following too closely, failure to maintain lane, and vehicular homicide. The driver was sentenced to three years probation.
Deputy Cammon had served with the agency for 35 years, and had previously served with the Georgia State Patrol. He is survived by his son and two grandchildren.
