Sergeant Michael Bossuyt was shot and killed after he stopped two men who were stealing a video game console from an arcade at the intersection of East Forest Avenue and Gratiot Avenue.

The subjects were able to gain control of his service weapon and shot him in the head. They then stole the gun and threw it into Lake St. Clair, where it was later recovered. The suspect was sentenced to life in prison.

Sergeant Bossuyt had been with the Detroit Police Department for 12 years. He was survived by his wife, son, daughter, father, and three sisters.

It's hard to believe, but 40 years ago tomorrow, marks the day that Sgt. Bossuyt ended his watch. Doesn't seem like it was that long ago already. I thank him for his service.
