David Boitano

Officer David Boitano was walking his beat when he observed a man running directly toward him and carrying an object in his hand. The man fired five gunshots, mortally wounding Officer Boitano. The murderer continued running down the street.

On December 22, 1928, the suspect was apprehended in Los Angeles, California. He had also shot and killed another man six days before he killed Officer Boitano.

Officer Boitano's killer was a member of the "Black Hand Gang", which would soon get a new name; the Mafia. They were responsible for most of the Chicago Police unsolved murders especially during the Al Capone era.
