Deputy Robert Arnold succumbed to gunshot wounds sustained the previous day while attempting to serve an arrest warrant for non-payment of services rendered. As he entered the suspect's residence he was shot by the man, who was hiding behind curtains.

The suspect was apprehended in Arkansas a few days later. He was convicted of murder and sentenced to 40 years.

Deputy Arnold was survived by his wife and three children.

Deputy Arnold -

My Osage family is from Pawhuska, and there's no doubt my white grandfather and Osage Grandmother were about that area while you served. Based upon his history, you may have even...shall we say...crossed paths. Those were tough times, indeed, and men like you hopefully protected the (newly, oil-wealthy) Osage people who were being ripped-off, and often killed, for their money.

I thank you for the service you provided in those very difficult days. May God grant you eternal rest and may His perpetual light shine upon you.
