If memory serves, I knew Officer Dyer as Gunny Dyer, NCOIC of the United States Marine Corps Security Guard at the American Embassy in Tananarive, Madagascar between the years of 1974 and 1976. I say, "if memory serves" because I was eight years old at the time. But when I came across this photograph, I was immediately drawn back to those years. Those incredibly kind eyes are indelibly etched in my memory. My father admired and respected Mr. Dyer very much and his family and ours socialized quite a bit back then. I am so sorry to learn of his passing.
