Border Patrol Agent Jarod Dittman was killed in an automobile accident while en route to his patrol area in Jamul, California, at approximately 1:00 am.

Another Border Patrol agent came across the single vehicle accident on Otay Lakes Road, near State Route 94. Agent Dittman was pulled from his department issued Jeep Wrangler and transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries approximately one hour later.

Agent Dittman was a veteran of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard and had served with the Border Patrol for over one year. He is survived by his wife and child.

Thank you for your service and your sacrifice. I was recently reminded of your passing when I found a message I had received from your grandmother about the tragic news. I have also learned that you are not the only family member who is memorialized on these pages. Our cousin through common ancestry Patrolman Robert Flenner of the Waynesboro, Pennsylvania Police Department lost his life in the line of duty in 1908.
