Chief Myers was struck and killed by a vehicle while directing traffic at the scene of a brush fire. The fire had been extinguished and the chief and fire crews were clearing the scene when a vehicle approached. Using a flashlight, Chief Myers waved the vehicle through the intersection.
As the vehicle drove through it struck him from behind, throwing him approximately 35 feet. He was taken to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries shortly before midnight.
Chief Myers had served as the borough's part-time police chief for 10 years. He was survived by his wife, two brothers, and five sisters.
