Patrolman John Ralph died from injuries that was incurred in an on duty automobile accident.

The officer was a passenger in a department automobile, traveling home after being being called to the station on police business. At the corner of Dorchester Avenue and Washburn Street, the officer's vehicle was cut off by another driver, and a collision occurred. Officer Ralph died of his injuries two months later.

Patrolman Ralph had served with the Boston Police Department for six years, and was survived by his wife and six children.
