Officer Larry Cantrell was killed in an automobile accident while responding to a call of a burglary in progress.

Officer Cantrell was on patrol when he received the burglary call. He was en route on Highway 66 with his lights and sirens on when a vehicle pulled out in front of him. In an attempt to avoid a collision, Officer Cantrell veered off the road, but his patrol car flipped over. Officer Cantrell was airlifted to Tulsa Hospital but died from his injuries.

Officer Cantrell's father, who was participating in a ride-along and sitting in the front passenger seat of the patrol car, was also killed in the accident.

Officer Cantrell had previously served with the Vinita Police Department and spent 11 years in the United States Navy.

I’m just sad.
I have memories of the things you said but the sound becomes more faint each year. I’m sad that I might not remember your laugh one day.

Not one single day goes by I don’t think of you both. M life is surrounded by PD and FD. Blue and black in my sight non stop. We even have a drink called the PoPo!

Buddies from Sapulpa came and gave me your Medal and I see it 100 times a day

You’re both still honored to this day!!!!!

I’m so sad today. And I think it’s fine to go there. I just don’t stay that long.
