Correctional Officer Jackie Pierce was killed in a single vehicle crash on US 79.
He was driving a department van from the agency's central office, in Pine Bluff, to the Mississippi County Work Release Center in Luxora. He had just picked up food items and payroll checks from the central office when the accident occurred.
Officer Pierce was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran and had served with the Arkansas Department of Correction for eight years. He is survived by his wife and three children.
