You were friends with my mom, she retired a couple of years ago from the LRPD, Sgt. Rebecca Junkins, though you would have known her as Officer Rebecca Davis at your end of watch. We talked about you today, you see this weekend there was a shooting at a grocery store in Buffalo, the security guard was a retired police officer, and lost his life in the process of trying to stop the attack. Growing up, mom tried to keep work separate from home. She didn’t talk about much, but every once in a while, she’d mention you. When she retired, she was working downtown in the FOI office. Every time I visited and we passed the photos of the fallen officers, she pointed you out. You were her friend that she lost, who wasn’t even on duty, and did what he knew was right, trying to protect people, and sacrificed his life in the process. You’ve been gone longer than I’ve been alive, and we still talk about you. My dad and I even attended a gun safety course a few months ago, and the instructor, a former police officer, was injured in the line of duty, and because of how things happened, he earned an award named after you. My mom has the utmost respect for you, and is proud to have known you. And if any of your friends or family see this comment, I hope they are proud to know that people still know who you are, and are thankful for the sacrifice you made.
