Deputy Brian Haas was killed in an automobile accident while responding to a prowler call in Montura at 0320 hours.
During the response, he collided with a truck. He was attempting to pass this truck on State Route 25. The patrol car over turned several times from the impact. Deputy Haas was ejected from the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries.
Deputy Haas had served as a road deputy for five months, and had served with the Hendry County Sheriff's Department for 2 years. He is survived by his parents and sister.
