James E. "Jim" Baugh

Captain James Baugh was killed in an automobile accident while responding to a minor traffic accident at 4:30 pm.

The officer lost control of his patrol car on U.S. 231 and overturned into Big Walnut Creek, trapping him inside for over 15 minutes. He was transported to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, where he succumbed to his injuries five hours later.

Captain Baugh was a United States Air Force Vietnam veteran who had served with the Putnam County Sheriff's Department for 32 years and had previously served as sheriff. Captain Baugh was survived by his wife, two sons, daughter-in-law, granddaughter, and four sisters.

Capt. Baugh,
On today, the 20th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice-not just as a Law Enforcement Officer but for our Country as well when you served with the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
