Marshal Floyd was shot and killed while attempting to arrest a man who had refused to surrender a shotgun he was carrying through town. Marshal Floyd was unarmed during the initial confrontation and went to arm himself. When he returned to arrest the man he was shot. He died at 0300 hours the following morning.
The suspect, who pleaded self defense, was tried and acquitted.
