Deputy Schwab, who had been running for the office of constable for 20 years, was finally elected this time but only lived a few hours to enjoy his well earned victory. He came downtown rejoicing but was shot down by a man who had twice been adjudged insane, sent to an asylum, and had been released both times.
On January 29, 1891, the suspect was convicted of second degree murder and sentenced to 25 years.
Deputy Schwab had been with the Marion County Sheriff.s Department for 20 years.
