Frank Schimunck

Special Officer Frank Schimunck was accidentally shot and killed in New York City, New York, with his own weapon while he was inspecting the undercarriage of a truck at approximately 12:30 pm.

The incident occurred on Pier 8 on the North Hudson River near Rector Street in Manhattan. His revolver discharged as he bent over, fatally wounding him.

The Lehigh Valley Railroad was merged into Conrail on April 1, 1976, which was later merged into Norfolk Southern Railroad on August 22, 1998.

Special Officer Schimunck was survived by his wife.
