Ann Marie Guinta

Police Officer Ann Guinta was killed in an automobile crash while responding to a report of a fight aboard a transit bus.

As she came over a slight hill on North Decatur Road, near Gifford Drive, she swerved to the right to avoid striking a vehicle that was in the left-hand lane. Her patrol car clipped the back of the truck and turned onto its side in a wooded ravine. The top of the patrol car struck a tree, pinning her inside.

Officer Guinta had served with the DeKalb County Police Department for five years. She is survived by her 6-year-old son.

Ann, seems like yesterday that radio called me and said you had wrecked. I knew it was bad because radio operators don't breakdown....but with you I'm afraid we all did multiple times. I retired in 2008 due to too many injuries and it was time. We changed too much and I promised my Daddy (Former Sheriff of our county for 12 years) when he pin my badge in 1988 I would not stay should my pride and love for the call waiver. I did exactly as I promised. Both he and my Mama are gone now. My badge is in Daddy's pocket and my metals are on a card saying "Of all the honors I have received there was never a greater one than being your and Daddy's baby girl." in Mama's pocket. I thought alot those days of how Nico handled you death. You raised a 6 yr old man that comforted us! Ok let me get back to work. I know Step and Christa are with you up there so ya'll try to behave. Don't make me come up there! You are missed. You are still loved!
