I was cheated out of ever knowing my grandfather. He was murdered in cold blood by a man he had befriended. My family and the elders of our town told me stories of my granddad. He was well liked and loved in the community. He was a founder and leader in the Methodist church and was Past Master of the Masonic lodge. He was quick to come to the aid of those in need, even during the horrible years of the depression. My father once told me he had never, ever, heard his Dad utter an obscene word. It takes quite a man to be able to do that.. I think about my Granddad often, and wonder how things might have been had he lived...
