Hamill Poston Scott

Special Deputy Hamill Scott succumbed to a gunshot wound received two months earlier while in foot pursuit of a murder suspect near 600 Houston Street.

The man suddenly turned and opened fire, striking Deputy Scott. He remained paralyzed until his death two months later.

The suspect shot and killed the county attorney after he and Deputy Scott arrested him and several others for illegal gambling. Several officers shot and killed the suspect minutes later.

Deputy Scott had served with the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office for 10 years. He was survived by his wife.
