Patrolman Kenneth Batemen was shot and killed when he interrupted a burglary at a local restaurant. He was fatally wounded in the exchange of gunfire with the suspects.

His murder case remains unsolved.

Patrolman Bateman had served with the Darien Police Department for seven years. He was survived by his wife and parents. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran.

On today, the 40th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice-not just for your Community but for our Country as well when you served with the USN as a crewmember on the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise(CVN-65)-“The Big E.” And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
