Officer Bateman. I never knew you, nor did i ever meet you. I was a brand new rookie on the Stamford Connecticut Police Department , the next town to Darien, Ct.
I had exactly thirteen days on the job on the night of your untimely death.
Myself and the other members of the rookie class of May 18 1981 assisted at the traffic detail for your funeral.
Your tragic untimely death that night always served as a reminder to me as to how dangerous our job as Police Officers is. I thought of you many times during my almost 37 years as a Police Officer.
During this time i also interacted with one of the suspects involved. I can't express how sorry I am that an arrest was never made for the persons involved. I still hope and pray this will happen. My prayers to you and your family.

John Farrell City Of Stamford Ct. P.D. Retired.
