Deputy Gibson was shot and killed after he responded to a report of a burglary alarm at a local drugstore. Upon his arrival the two burglars opened fire on him.
Deputy Gibson was survived by his wife and child.

His wife, my great grandmother would go on to teach school in Fort Davis, Texas for 51 years.

His child my grandmother would be the county clerk for Jeff Davis County, her office in the Courthouse in Fort Davis. She was there for over 45 years.

Together they raised 5 children in Fort Davis, all of which obtained their college degrees and became successful.
