Warden Daughtrey was killed when his patrol vehicle was struck head-on while he was investigating illegal night hunting. The vehicle which struck Warden Daughtrey's vehicle was carrying rifles, spotlights and other hunting equipment. The driver of that vehicle was also killed in the accident.
Warden Daughtrey had been with the agency for 16 years and is survived by his wife and three children.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 33rd anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
