Border Patrol Agent Ricardo Salinas was shot and killed after a car chase in Texas. Agent Salinas and two other Border Patrol agents were assisting a local agency trying to stop the suspects who had just committed another murder. Agent Salinas was shot in the head with an MK-90 rifle. The suspect had just shot and killed Agent Susan Rodriguez.

A Cameron County sheriff's deputy was also shot and critically wounded. The three officers were re-entering their cruisers when the suspect came out of a cornfield and ambushed them. None of them had time to return fire. The suspect was then taken into custody after a gunfight with several other officers at the scene and died later in the day from his wounds.

Agent Salinas had served with the Border Patrol for 1 year. He was survived by his parents and sister.
