William N. Wong

Police Officer William Wong and Police Officer Arthur Soo Hoo were killed when their police car was struck by a vehicle driven at approximately 85 mph.

The occupants in the vehicle were fleeing from a drug deal gone bad. The vehicle ran a red light at the intersection of North Broadway and College Streets and struck the patrol car the officers were in.

Both suspects fled to Mexico where they were arrested by Mexican authorities but released because of the violent drug cartel to which they belonged. In 2003 the passenger suspect was arrested in Vacavile, California, and pleaded guilty to a manslaughter charge. As of 2011 the driver is still at large and is to still believed to be in Mexico.

I met Bill a couple years before his death while I was temporarily assigned to Northeast Div. from OCB CRASH. Bill and I were partnered up and the rest is History; we became friends. When I returned to CRASH, I persuaded Bill to transfer to my Unit. Some months later he was accepted into CRASH.

In those wonderful years we were inseparable, going out together on our days off. I was going to his home for dinner, he came to my mom's home for dinner. Mom loved Bill like if he were a member of our family. We also took crazy trips to Mexico and went water skiing as well.

The whole time on the Job, I never met a man as incredible as Bill. He was truly one in a million, and I miss him dearly!
