Officer Robert Williams succumbed to injuries from an automobile accident the previous day.

Officer Williams' patrol car experienced a mechanical failure, causing it to collide with another vehicle on Trinity Lane and flip over. He was transported to General Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Officer Williams Was a United States Army veteran and had served with the Metro Nashville Police Department for five years. He was survived by his daughter.

I joined the NMPD in 1967 and worked the downtown area with Bob, in fact we shared an apartment for a while. He was a great police officer in 1967, but he was an officer for his time, not today. I would not be a police officer in today's Nashville. So much has changed since that time. Both good and not so good. I will never forget Bob Williams. He help mold me into the officer I became and my thirty -year career that followed. Tommy Jacobs, RIP brother.
