Patrolman George Ayres was killed in an automobile crash accident while on patrol on New Albany Road.
As he was rounding a bend between Riverton Road and Church Street, he hit some debris in the road. He lost control of the car and went down an embankment, flipping twice before crashing into a tree.
Patrolman Ayres was a United States Navy Reserve WWII veteran and had served with the Moorestown Police Department for just over one year. He was survived by his wife and three young children.
