Harold V. Atkinson

Lieutenant Harold Atkinson was stabbed to death while assigned to the Missouri State Penitentiary.

After he failed to turn in his radio a search was conducted for him. His body was found several hours later underneath a cell bunk with 69 stab wounds.

Two inmates were convicted of Lieutenant Atkinson's murder and sentenced to 99 years in prison.

Lieutenant Atkinson was a 24-year veteran of the Missouri Department of Corrections.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 37th anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
