Officer Thompson was killed near the high school football field at 1210 21st Ave. in Tuscaloosa while investigating suspicious activity. His body was found with teeth marks on his arms and it is believed he was bitten as he reached into a car to turn off the ignition. It is believed that he was investigating a stolen car.

Officer Thompson was survived by his wife.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 88th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
