Glenn M. Sturgill

Detective Sergeant Glenn Sturgill was shot and killed while attempting to arrest three armed robbery suspects.

He had observed the two men attempt to rob a woman at gunpoint on Claremont Avenue and chased one of the men behind the McDonald's. While taking the man into custody, he was ambushed by the other suspect and shot and killed. The suspects, ages 25, 21, and 17, were apprehended. The juvenile was charged with aiding and abetting robbery.

The 21-year-old shooter was convicted of murder and robbery and sentenced to life. He has a parole hearing in September 2021. His accomplice was convicted of manslaughter and robbery and sentenced to life. He was denied parole in 2016. His next parole hearing will be on November 1, 2022.

Detective Sergeant Sturgill was killed on his 30th birthday and had served with the Ashland County Sheriff's Department for six years. He is survived by his wife and two children.
