Officer Skip Stevenson was shot and killed after he broke an argument between another off-duty officer and a man at a party at 1228 P Street in Fresno. As the two officers left the party the suspect opened fire, killing Officer Stevenson.
The suspect, 25, was arrested four hours later and charged with murder. On June 26, 1980, he was convicted of second degree murder and sentenced to 17 years to life.
Officer Stevenson had served with the Fresno Police Department for six months. He was survived by his son, father, mother, brother, and sister.
