View all 5 ReflectionsThank you Sheriff Smith for serving the citizens of Ormsby County. You sacrificed your life in pursuit of justice and it is appreciated. Ormsby County is now Carson City/Carson County. Carson City (formerly in Ormsby County) is the capitol of Nevada. Carson City is named after the famous explorer Kit Carson, who blazed trails in western part of California and Nevada. When Sheriff Smith was gunned down, Nevada had only been a state for 3 years.
