Patrolman George Angeli was struck and killed by a drunk driver while investigating an accident on Curran Memorial Highway at approximately 11:15 p.m.

The offender was an underage youth and was charged with driving under the influence of liquor and was arraigned as a delinquent.

Patrolman Angeli was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII and had served with the North Adams Police Department for two years. He was survived by his wife, two children, mother, and three siblings.
