Joseph Samuel "Jody" Scottino

Patrolman Jody Scottino was accidentally shot and killed when his service weapon discharged.

He was searching for a burglary suspect in a building at 3500 West Pioneer Parkway. He was walking across the top of a building when the roof of the building collapsed. His service weapon discharged as he fell through the roof, and the round struck him.

He had served as a full-time police officer with the Pantego Police Department for only six weeks. He had previously served as a reserve officer for two years and a dispatcher for one year. He was survived by his parents, two sisters, and grandmother.
